So what happened last night and what does it mean?

Last night, the Oscar Smith Varsity Tigers beat the Landstown Eagles. It was a tight game (20-16) – the Tigers haven’t played a game this close in quite a while. The Marching Tigers played and yelled and sang their support for the team. And it had quite the effect: you could feel the intensity rising. Oscar Smith coaches tell us the band helped pick up the team at critical moments and “made the difference.” The band got a special shout-out at football practice today. #tigerteamwin

The Tigers weren’t the only team in action last night, of course. Thomas Dale High School beat Ocean Lakes High School (36-6), setting up our next opponent. Colonial Forge beat Ocean Lakes (42-21). Massaponax High School beat Freedom High School as well (45-42). Of all of our possible opponents, Freedom High School was the only one higher seeded – meaning it was the only opponent where the Tigers would be forced to travel. This means that if the Tigers keep winning, they’ll play all the future games at home, up until the final game at Hampton University.

Here’s how it could break out if the Tigers keep roaring:

  • Friday, Nov 29 against Thomas Dale (home)

  • Saturday, Dec 7th against either Massaponax or Colonial Forge (home)

  • Saturday, Dec 14th against whomever emerges from the other bracket (Championship Game at Hampton University)

Looking at the calendar, you’ll notice this sets up a couple apparent conflicts. For the Dec 7th game, the Marching Tigers will also march in the Chesapeake Christmas Parade. The game will likely be in the early afternoon (probable start time of 2 pm), and the Marching Tigers will go directly from OSHS to the parade. It’s tight, but we’ve done it before.

Then, on Dec 14th, we’ll have a game and those who have submitted their paperwork (and fees) to try out for District Band will audition. The auditions will be in the morning and the game will be at in the evening. Again, we’ve done it before and it will work out.

For Friday’s game against Thomas Dale, we’ll again need volunteers. Go to: http://bit.ly/OSBBC_2019Playoffs This will be the day after Thanksgiving, so school will be out. There’ll be no Pizza Friday, so Marchers should arrive fed at 5:30 pm wearing Pink Out Shirts. While the forecast will undoubtedly change in the meantime, it currently calls for clear with a high of 47 and a low of 35 degrees. So be sure and dress for the weather!

Meanwhile, have a Happy Thanksgiving!!
